i have to question this bird's taste in music, but i will never criticize any living creature that wants to groove:

in the air tonight
this was the topic of discussion at work today:
watching that just doesn't get old.
it's a british ad campaign for cadbury (maker of the like-named egg) and apparently it's so popular that "in the air tonight" is back on the charts.
a watching of the video sparked a debate between two co-workers as to whether or not "in the air tonight" was the music playing during the subway sex scene in risky business.
the two put a million dollars on it, they were so certain of their positions: yes, it was or no, it was the tangerine dream crap.
the attempt to settle the score resulted in these two things:
1. me e-mailing an explicit video clip of said sex scene courtesy of you tube to my bosses' e-mail, something he later said he fully encourages.
2. one of the factions in the bet _ the one insisting "in the air tonight" indeed plays during the scene _ arriving back from his lunchbreak with blockbuster's copy of risky business.
turns out they were both right as the scene included both "in the air tonight" and tangerine dream, and they had to call it even at $500,000 each.

lunch
i have gotten so lazy. instead of fixing myself a lunch on my day off, or even putting together a sandwich or going out to lunch, i instead opted for an odd combination of lazy today:
1. chips and salsa
2. microwaved butter beans
3. a kashi cookie
i know, mmmmmmm, right?

right turn right ahead
do this:
1. go to google maps
2. select 'get directions'
3. enter 'new york city' in the first box and 'paris' in the second box
4. check out step #23.
my mom said i obviously had too much time on my hands. i have to instead give credit to al's morning meeting.

coffee
because it was a pretty and relatively warmer (as in not below freezing) day yesterday, i took my lunchbreak to walk a few blocks to starbucks. i don't know why i was motivated to go to starbucks, considering i've pretty much given up fancy coffee drinks to stick solely to my first love of plain ole' coffee w/ a shot of cream and sugar, which i could get for free in the office.
while i was waiting on the barista, a lady at one of the cash registers broke out in a very get-down version of "white christmas."
it totally made my day.

coupons
being an avid coupon clipper (yes, i'll admit it -- i'm a poor writer, cut me some slack) i've noticed that a few seem to expire on dates that don't happen, except, perhaps in some alternate universe. like the coupon for jack daniels barbecue sauce with an expiration date of nov. 31, 2006. or the bunny bread coupon with an expiration date of feb. 28, 2007. does this mean they never expire?

deja vuing
i've had several moments of deja vu/weirdness lately as it relates to listening to music. observe:
1. heading home from work on tuesday, i heard one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands, 'hungry like the wolf' by duran duran. i happened to look at the clock in my car, to see how early or late i was leaving work: 5:40 p.m. the very next day, as i was driving to memphis, "hungry like the wolf" popped up on my random ipod playlist at exactly 5:40 p.m.
2. i was listening to some 80s tunes on one of the radio stations in memphis yesterday. i turned it on mid-song and at first thought i was listening to "jessie's girl" by rick springfield. i wasn't, but guess what the very next song was? indeed it was "jessie's girl" (i know you may think i've misspelt jessie, but i haven't.)
3. as i was headed back to nashville yesterday, i had the ipod random playlist back on. a poor copy of jimmy buffett's cover of "southern cross" came on and i chose to skip it because, well, it's of poor quality and i do have a better version of it on my playlist which numbers about 540 songs. the next song which popped up (and again, the playlist plays in random order) was the good version of jimmy buffett's cover of "southern cross."
somebody tell me what it all means.

da hoff
i can't take credit for finding these two david hasselhoff gems, i had some help from dave barry's blog today.
see here and here.
as for the second one, i had to listen to it three times to realize that the girls were saying "i know your game" rather than "i know you're gay."
keep in mind this was the guy who over the summer decided whether america's got talent.

transformer
i don't know what the transformer-like thing that dances at the bottom of the tv screen during fox's nfl broadcasts is, but it scares me.
so does most of fox's fall lineup.

thinking of you
some of my very favorite things in the world are the random cards i get in the mail from my aunt betty. she's my father's only sibling, and 19 years older than him at that. and since i have no grandparents, she's like a grandmother to me.
the cards themselves are simple, but they always include a handwritten note -- not a simple sentence, but enough to fill the card. she always tells me she thinks of me often and usually tells me something goofy my dad has done or said to her.
such a card was just what i needed after having a miserable few hours of driving over a curb, changing a flat tire and having kids throw rocks at my car as i was driving.

horsing around
Apparently, this is the new exercise rage in Japan.
The Wall Street Journal reports that it costs about $700, but there's a 3-week backorder in Japan. Studies say a 15-minute session with your mechanical bull burns about 50 calories.

everyone else i know has linked to this blog, so being the bandwagoner that i can be, i too shall link:
snakes on a plane
i love the idea of 'snakes on a plane' as a philosphy. i'm jumping on the wagon with that one too.
and i love that it's samuel l. jackson, the good chattanoogan that he is.

the price isn't right
on the way home from louisville, i noticed a sign for port washington, ky., which reminded me of a week-old anecdote that needs to be shared.
when i stayed home from work last monday, i watched a bit of the price is right, tv at its most quality. one old man who made it to contestants' row was especially excited. bob barker even told him to calm down after he yelled out one of his pricing guesses. the man made it onto stage, and on the way over to bob barker, he got on the floor and did a little break dance spin. no joke. turns out this guy is the mayor of port washington, ky., and he gave bob barker a (very small) key to his city. "that and a buck or two will get you a cup of coffee," mr. mayor told bob barker.
later in the show, an older woman (bless her heart) was on contestants row. she was third or fourth in line to offer her pricing guess for the item up for bid. i hope i'm not telling you something new when i tell you the goal of the price is right pricing games are to come up with a price that is nearest to the actual retail price without going over. so, lady is up. the woman in front of her bids $725. Her bid? $724.
