grocering

it rained today, which means everyone and their mother turned into a bad driver. that's a given. what i didn't realize is that rain also makes people bad grocery shoppers.

there's always one or two annoying people who get their buggy in your way at the grocery store. i'm used to that. but today, i swear, everyone's shopping cart manners were out the door. throw in a side of the entire store staff doing inventory with boxes and stepladders, and you're better off just leaving.

i had one particular incident with an inventorying staffer and his stool, a lady that had one of those gi-normous carts in the shape of a racecar with her two kids piled inside and a lady who just couldn't wait her turn to get past the two others.

you know how when you're hard-core grocery shopping, you steer your cart up and down every single aisle, and inevitably you keep passing the same person doing the same thing. well, that was what race car cart mother and i kept doing, except she kept parking her cart in the middle of the aisle, thus stopping all lanes of traffic. every time i waited, not saying a word, but i gurantee my face was saying plenty. we encountered in one aisle one of the workers -- he was blocking one lane of traffic, leaving one other open. guess who blocked that? i waited ... and waited ... and waited, expecting one of the two to do the right thing and slide over to let me through. i waited ... and waited ... and threw some dirty looks. finally, race car lady starts backing up, when out of nowhere comes a middle-aged woman in a velour track suit, whizzing by me. bitch! wait your turn!

pissed off, i track over to the paper towel area just to get away. why is it no one is ever in those aisles around the paper goods and cleaners? i didn't really need anything over there, just a break.

SO, if you're still reading this, remember, if you and your shopping cart are parked in the middle of a tight aisle, do the right thing. slide over just a bit to allow the rest of us through.

I enjoy that there is a moral to the story.
